If you have any questions or run into any problems please feel free to call Technical Support, toll free at 1-888-CLEARWI (1-888-253-2794). They are there to help you from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm, 7 days a week... But if you like, we'll come by to set it up for you.

Take the clearwire modem, power supply and Ethernet cable out of the box.

Swing open the stand located at the bottom of the clearwire modem by turning it.

It is best to locate the clearwire modem near and/or point the clearwire modem towards a window to get the best signal. Typically, the clearwire logo should be facing inwards, away from the window.

Plug the power supply into the clearwire modem and then into the wall socket.

Upon power-up the clearwire modem will immediately go through its' "wake up" sequence. The five green LED lights located on the top of the modem will start flashing. Once you see the lights flashing in sequence it has completed its' "wake up" sequence and is now searching for signal. The lights will begin to flash at the same time once it has located a signal to lock on to.

Slooowly rotate the clearwire modem about 1/8 turn every 15~20 seconds to find the maximum number of lights.

Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the clearwire modem. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into your computer or router (see router instructions for directions specific to your router).

Turn on the power to your computer or router. The lights on your clearwire modem will stop flashing once it has establishesed a connection to your computer or router. Remember, it is not necessary to have all five lights lit up to achieve maximum performance levels and speed. The modem can operate at its' maximum rated speed on as little as three lights. The more lights that remain lit, the stronger the connection.

Now open your internet browser.

PLEASE NOTE - If this is the first time that the modem has been connected to the internet you will be shown a clearwire splash screen. Click on the CONTINUE button. Read and agree to the "Terms of Service". Read, confirm and acknowledge your understanding of each of the points shown by clicking on the box located next to each point. And complete the section about the quality of service you received from your authorized agent.

a guide to optimizing your clearwire high-speed internet signal

location, location, location

To help determine which room has the strongest signal strength, move the modem from room to room. The modem takes 15~20 seconds to register a signal. So after you move the modem, pause for 15~20 seconds to get an accurate indication of the modem's signal strength. The signal strength is typically better on higher floors.

If the highest signal strength is in a room that is not a desirable location for the clearwire modem use a pair of clearwire ClearPlugTM Ethernet Wall Mount Module units or place the modem in another room and face the modem towards the room with the better reception.

  • The Clearwire ClearPlugTM Ethernet Wall Mount Module makes it possible to set up your Clearwire modem anywhere, wherever the wireless signal is strongest. ClearPlugs use existing electrical wiring to connect the modem and your computer, so you don't have to run unsightly ethernet cables through your home or office.

ClearPlugs work in pairs and connect to standard wall outlets.

To setup, simply:

A - Position the Clearwire modem where the signal is best and connect it to one of the ClearPlugs and plug in the ClearPlug unit.

B - In your computer room, plug in the other ClearPlug unit and connect your computer or wireless router to that ClearPlug unit.

ideal placement

The ideal placement for the clearwire modem is near a window oriented towards a clearwire tower. The modem's antenna is located on the side without the clearwire logo. Call us to find out the location of the nearest clearwire tower(s).

The area around the clearwire modem should also be free of obstructions.

Typical obstructions include:

  • books
  • houseplants
  • curtains
  • window blinds
  • gas filled windows
  • window tinting
  • copper or metal window screening
  • chain link fencing material

maximize your clearwire connection

To maximize your clearwire service, attach a router or wireless router. This will allow you to access high-speed internet from any room in your house.

small movements, Big Impact

To obtain better signal strength in the modem's current location, try small 1/4" turns. Even small movements can have a significant impact on your signal. Remember, the modem takes a few seconds to register, so after you setup the modem in a new position, pause for 15~20 seconds.
